If you already know how to count music, this book is not for you. I wrote it for the group of beginning harpers (or beginning players on any instrument) who have not played music before. Or who have difficulties with certain rhythms and need help figuring them out. As with all of my learning materials, this book was written with the adult student in mind, but can certainly be used with young people who are being supervised in their learning.

The book begins at the beginning, with a thorough discussion of whole notes, half notes, quarter notes, eighth notes and sixteenth notes (triplets too!) and how they relate to each other and to the time signature. And how music is all about math!

It explains the common (and some not so common) time signatures, tied notes, dotted notes, syncopation, and “three over two.” It relies heavily on the metronome as a learning tool, and you should have one handy as you study and play through this book.
